Apple released a series of job postings on Nov. 13 that offers a glimpse of where the company is headed in terms of Metaverse technology.

According to Bloomberg, the company is currently looking for engineers to develop content for its new VR headset, which will reportedly feature a high-resolution display and a set of more than 10 cameras, and will be powered by Apple's latest M2 chip, One of the fastest releases in the industry.

One of the job postings specifically called for engineers with knowledge of developing 3D mixed reality worlds. The move could mean that Apple is already developing its own iterations of the Metaverse platform, such as Meta's Horizon Worlds, where users can meet, interact and build their own worlds.

The job posting states that selected engineers will "build tools and frameworks to enable connected experiences in the 3D mixed reality world."

Another job posting asks for engineers to create a 3D video platform with content suitable for experience with virtual reality hardware. Technavio's November 11 report on the future of the entertainment metaverse also predicts the rise of such experiences, predicting that it will become a trend and drive the development of the interactive film industry in the next few years.

Apple's Metaverse anticipation

The company and its executives were concerned about naming the various virtual experiences currently known as the Metaverse. Apple CEO Tim Cook thinks the term is too vague and open to multiple interpretations.

Cook told Bright publications:

It’s always important to me that people have a good understanding of what something is. And I’m really not sure the average person can tell you what the metaverse is.

In contrast, Cook is a firm believer in AR and what it can do for users of the technology, describing it as "a profound technology that impacts everything."
